Vitamin D Returns to the Spotlight: Optimal Levels Reduce Cancer Risk and Support Longevity

A new meta-analysis published this month puts vitamin D back at the center of longevity research. After reviewing more than 76 studies, scientists concluded that maintaining optimal vitamin D blood levels is associated with:

  • A 15% to 25% reduction in overall mortality, especially in adults over 50

  • A more efficient immune system and fewer respiratory infections

  • Better muscle function and lower risk of falls

  • Reduced incidence of several types of cancer, particularly colorectal

The analysis also warns that more than 40% of adults over 50 have insufficient vitamin D levels, especially during winter months. Researchers recommend:

  • Moderate daily sun exposure (10–20 minutes)

  • Supervised supplementation when needed

  • A diet rich in oily fish, eggs, and fortified dairy

Vitamin D is once again at the center of conversations about longevity, immunity and everyday well-being in the growing FIFTIERS population.
